Hello everyone! Here in San Martin, we recently successfully launched the grade 5 titanium watch SN0111T. This is our challenge to use new processing technology on new materials. In order to facilitate the comparison and intuitive experience of watch friends, the classic diving watch design is adopted, and the difference is only made in materials.
Although the number of titanium watches on the market is far less than that of steel watches, there are many styles to choose from, most of which are based on second-grade titanium using a sandblasting process.
Among grade 5 titanium watches, some only use grade 5 titanium for certain parts, and even fewer use grade 5 titanium for the entire watch. So our goal at the beginning was very radical, to make a watch made entirely of grade 5 titanium! The case, strap, bottom cover, and quick-adjust buckle are all made of grade five titanium, using only frosting and polishing processes.
Obviously, the excessively high goals caused us to suffer a lot, the production costs continued to rise, and a lot of time was consumed. We decided to switch the bottom cover and buckle to grade 2 titanium, which has more mature processing technology, but ensure that the case and strap are made of grade 5 titanium, otherwise the watch will lose its meaning.
In the end, it took nearly half a year to bring this watch to everyone.
Grade 5 titanium is a high-standard watchmaking material that has not yet entered the public eye.
Grade 5 titanium Gr5 has higher hardness and heat resistance than grade 2 titanium Gr2 and is widely used in the aviation field. It also has better biocompatibility and is favored by the medical field.
The hardness of Gr5 is greater than Gr2.
The HRC hardness of Gr5 is generally between 31 and 35, which is significantly higher than Gr2.
Gr5 is more wear resistant than GR2 due to its high hardness. Gr5 is sometimes used as an abrasive.

Gr2 tensile strength ≥400MPA, yield strength ≥275MPA.

Gr5 titanium alloy is also called TC4 titanium alloy. Its composition is Ti-6Al-4V. It is an α+β type heat-resistant titanium alloy. It can work below 500℃ for a long time. It not only shows high instantaneous strength at high temperatures, but also has sufficient strength. plasticity.
Gr5 titanium alloy material can work for a long time below 550°C, but the Gr2 working environment should be below 150°C. Above 150°C, both corrosion resistance and mechanical properties will be greatly reduced.
It has good weldability in terms of sheet formability and forging performance. It is used to manufacture jet engine compressor blades, impellers, etc. As well as various load-bearing components in aircraft structures, such as landing gear wheels and structural parts, fasteners, brackets, aircraft accessories, frames, purlin structures, and pipes, they are widely used.
Grade 5 titanium has better biocompatibility than grade 2 titanium and can meet more demanding applications such as medical devices.
Ti-6AI-4V is the mainstream titanium alloy material for implants. There is no connective tissue combination between the implant and bone tissue, forming very good osseointegration. Sales account for approximately more than 80% of the entire global biomedical titanium alloy market.
Due to low thermal conductivity and high chemical activity of TC4 alloy, the temperature at the tool tip rises quickly during cutting, which easily causes tool wear. Burns, ripples and deformations are likely to occur during grinding, and sanding or polishing is more difficult than sandblasting.
Grade 5 titanium watches will be more expensive than grade 2 titanium watches, and their acceptance is lower, and they are not too optimistic when setting production quantities.
But we believe that watches with better materials will definitely bring more new experiences and fun to friends in the future. Therefore, we insist on exploring and improving the processing technology of grade five titanium to make that day come faster.
